Moodle doesn’t work on my child’s computer
While most web browsers will be sufficient for parents to view Moodle and the Reporting Portal, your child might experience technical difficulty when uploading assignments or viewing resources if they use an old web browser. Some Moodle features require a modern web browser.
They strongly recommend that you use or provide your child with the very latest version of Mozilla FireFox or Google Chrome to access ourFlinders.
Older versions of Internet Explorer and Safari in particular do not support some important Moodle features and can be very unresponsive when performing certain tasks. The majority of technical support questions they currently receive about Moodle are resolved by using FireFox or Chrome instead of Internet Explorer.
Flinders Christian Community College Moodle Features
Teachers use Moodle to provide students with learning resources, reference materials, quizzes, assignments and discussion forums. Students and Staff can participate in these learning activities, send questions to their teachers outside of school hours, submit their assignments electronically and view their individual timetables.
Even if away from school for extended periods of time (for example, due to prolonged illness or overseas travel), students can still participate in learning and interact with their teachers and classmates.
Parents are able to view many of the resources provided to their children and can monitor the progress of their children throughout the year. When a parent views the FbD Reporting Portal, they immediately of their child’s progress in all subjects.
Report information is near ‘real time’: results are generally available within 30 minutes of a teacher entering the results. This means that parents can track the progress of their children early in the semester, well before a traditional end-of-semester report. Parents and teachers can then identify and address learning difficulties immediately rather than waiting for a final report, by which time it could be too late to take action. Parents also have access to the timetables for each child.
In addition, the FbD Reporting Portal provides parents and students with notifications that indicate that a task has been assessed, or that a task is due soon or overdue.
Additional features
- Detailed events calendar.
- Contact info for your child’s teachers or related campus contacts.
- Access to timetables, due work, grades and reports.
- Submit absences.
- Check account information.
- Respond to information requests and give event consent.
- Read notices and newsletters.
- Link to online resources like uniforms and canteen information, school bus routes.

- Log into moodle account.
- Click/tap the messages icon in the top-right section of the page.
- Click/tap the link labelled ‘New Message.’
- If the staff member’s name is already listed, you have previously messaged that person or received a message, then simply click the name.
- But if the name is not listed, type in part of the recipients name in the ‘Search for a user or course’ space.
- Click on the name of the staff member you wish to contact.
- Enter your message at the bottom of the screen labeled ‘Write message’.
- Then click / tap Send.
Message notifications menu
The notifications menu is your shortcut to all your Moodle messages. It summarizes the most recent messages and shows you if you have read them. Unread messages are shaded in a few different colors and have a number indicator to show how many of the sender’s messages remain unread. Click / tap ‘View All’ to go to the main messaging area or click ‘New Message’ to start composing a new message.
What’s the difference between ourFlinders and Moodle?
Moodle is learning management software. They used this software to build a website called ‘ourFlinders’. When you log into ourFlinders you are using the Moodle software. That said, don’t worry too much about it! When most people at Flinders use the two interchangeably.
How to Access or Use Flinders Moodle ?

Access ourFlinders
Reports for Flinders students are integrated into Flinders Moodle Learning Management System, which can be accessed at: our.flinders.vic.edu.au.
Help Logging in
When your child starts at Flinders Christian Community College an account is automatically created for you. Flinders will email you notification of your Flinders Community ID with instructions on how to set up your account for the first time.
Clicking on your campus will take you to the login page. If you have never logged in to ourFlinders before you will need to create your Flinders account password. Log in using your Flinders Community ID and password.
Viewing Your Child’s Report
Once you have logged in to the system, click on your child’s home campus link. You should then see your child in the block on the right hand side. You will notice links to their Report and their Timetable.
About the Observations
The observations are designed to give you an indication of the behaviors and attitudes your child is exhibiting in each subject. They are recognisable by the gold colored bars. Click on the bars for any subject to view the detail about how the observations are assessed.
About Attainment Grades
Attainment grades are the task assessments for each subject. The tasks for each subject are grouped into categories. Click on the green bar to view the categories for each subject. Click again on a category to view the tasks for that category.
Flinders’ reporting system is continuous, so as soon as tasks have been graded, teachers will begin entering assessments into the system. This will mean that your child’s attainment grade will fluctuate as the semester progresses, until all assessments have been completed. Check the reporting portal regularly to view your child’s progress in each subject.
Locating Teacher Comments
Teachers will give a comment on key assessments for some tasks. If a comment has been given, you will see a green bubble beside the task grade. Note that not all tasks will receive a comment.
Comments are found by clicking on the subject bar, then one of the category total bars.
Past Reports
The reporting system allows you to track back through recent reporting cycles to view your child’s progress over time. Look for the cycle drop-down tool to switch to a previous reporting cycle.
If you wish to access reports from a previous semester or year, use the Past Reports tab, and download the report you wish to view.
